Grand Rapids police beef up security during ArtPrize

GRPD Talks ArtPrize security

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - A highly visible police presence are the words that law enforcement are using to describe their strategy for ArtPrize Eight.

That means you'll see officers in Grand Rapids patrolling in a number of ways. In cars, on foot and even using segways are just some of the methods that will be employed.

But after this weekend, police need your help as well. They want you to keep a lookout for anything suspicious including an unattended package.

"If anyone comes across an unattended package or even anything that looks suspicious, what we're asking is that for that individual to not approach it, stay away from it, call 911," says Sgt. Terry Dixon. "Allow GRPD to come investigate it, we will make a determination whether to render it safe or not to be around."

Police are also asking people to obey all traffic laws during ArtPrize Eight. They stress the importance of crosswalks when you have tens of thousands of people in downtown Grand Rapids.
