Grand Rapids Public Museum hosts nearly 20 ArtPrize pieces

Grand Rapids Public Museum celebrates ArtPrize, part 1

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - ArtPrize Nine is in full swing and just as you would expect, there is art to be seen everywhere you turn.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum has made itself home to nearly 20 beautiful and unique entries, so Kamady Rudd took a closer look this morning with Kate Moore and Christie Bender from the GRPM, as one of the featured artists.

'Lux Maximus' was created by Daniel Oropeza from Southern California. It's a 3-D sculpture comprised of infused glass, copper, bronze and metal. This is the first sculpture of it's kind in the world. Oropeza says he hopes to bring a whole new medium to classical sculpture.

"I thought if I brought it back, classical sculpture, with a new medium maybe it would catch on," said Oropeza.

You can check out these two pieces and a lot more at the Grand Rapids Pubic Museum, while also enjoying half-off admission through ArtPrize Nine as well.
