18 year old shot in neck in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - Battle Creek police were searching for a suspect after a man was shot Tuesday night in the Post Addition.

Officers reported the shooting at 9:35 p.m. outside the Cliff Street Grocery at 81 Cliff St. They said an 18-year-old man was shot in the neck, struck by one of two shots fired at close range. He then ran west a block to Elm Street where he was picked up and driven in a private car to Bronson Battle Creek.

The man was transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Police did not know his condition late Tuesday.

Officers said the victim and the suspect were standing outside the store when the shooting occurred. A surveillance camera mounted on the outside of the store captured the attack, police said.

After the shooting the suspect ran to the east. Police, including a department tracking dog, were unable to find the man.

Officers found the victim's cell phone in the grass but were unable to find any shell casings in the grass and believe a revolver may have been used.

The name of the man who was shot was not immediately released. Officers said he was not cooperative when questioned about the shooting.
