BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - A 21-year-old Battle Creek man was being treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder Sunday afternoon.
Battle Creek police said the man was shot outside a home in the 100 block of Redner Avenue just south of Coolidge Street.
The man was taken to Bronson Battle Creek by private car. Sgt. Stuart Bell said he suffered a single gunshot wound believed to be non-life threatening.
Police were called at 2:24 p.m. to investigate a report of shots fired and speeding cars.
As they went to the scene they learned the man had been left at the hospital. Bell said it's believed a family member took the man to the hospital but then left.
Police had reports that as many as 15 shots were fired although they had located fewer shell casings at the scene, Bell said.
He said patrol officers and detectives were continuing the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Observer at 269-954-3888 or the Battle Creek Police Department at 269-966-3322.
