Man arrested for stealing truck, trying to run children over

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - A Battle Creek man, 22, was arrested on several charges after Battle Creek police said he was driving a stolen truck and attempted to hit two children on bicycles and then drove away from police.

Officers were called to the 200 block of Greenwood at 7:22 p.m. Thursday and reported a boy, 13, and his sister, 9, said they were nearly hit twice by a man driving a gray pickup truck. As the man drove by he yelled, "I am going to run you over and shoot you," the boy told officers.

Police located the pickup on Grove Street and as they approached it backed out of a driveway and sped away. The police then found the truck on Boardman Avenue but no one was inside. Three people who had been in the truck were found walking on Seivour Avenue but one man, later determined to be the driver, ran from officers.

A man and woman were detained. The driver was located and arrested on charges of felonious assault, resisting police, and receiving and concealing stolen property because the truck had been reported stolen in Marshall.
