BC man faces charges for break-in, shootout

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - A Battle Creek man is facing charges for a breaking and entering a home and then a shootout with police, that left him injured.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning, at the intersection of Elm and Van Buren Streets in Battle Creek.

Officers say he was wanted for breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home and firing a gun during a fight earlier that night. Calhoun County sheriff deputies and Michigan State Police troopers spotted him just after midnight.

Investigators say he stopped after a brief chase and fired a gun at the police vehicles. Officers returned fire and hit the 47-year-old suspect twice. He was hospitalized and in stable condition.

Michigan State Police will be handling the investigation from this point on.
