Police: Man shot to death in Battle Creek, suspect still at large

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. - On Saturday, Nov. 25 around 1:10 a.m. emergency responders were called to the 300 block of Oneita Street on reports of a man shot.

When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Fernando Devon Paige laying in the road, dead from apparent gun shots. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Paige, however, the efforts were unsuccessful.

No one else was in the area when police arrived, however according to a news release -- an older, dark-colored car was reported to have left the area right after the shots were heard. This lead detectives to think that Paige was at a nearby house with some friends prior to being shot.

It is not know yet what lead up to the shooting.

Police say there were no other reports of arguing or problems that Paige had recently. He was recently released from jail and according to his family, has not had any issues since being released.

Battle Creek Police detectives are actively investigating the situation and ask that anyone with information contact the police department at 269-781-0911 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
