Bicyclist killed in accident involving College Station garbage truck

A student riding her bike was hit by a City of College Station Garbage truck. She died at the scene.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- College Station police have identified the victim in a fatal accident involving a city sanitation truck as Alannah Rose Ritch, a 21-year-old Texas A&M student and resident of San Marcos, Texas. 

The accident happened at the corner of Ayrshire and Angus around 11 a.m. Police say Ritch was riding her bicycle when a garbage truck struck and ran over her. She died from her injuries at the scene of the accident.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic event involving one of our sanitation drivers, our sincerest and deepest condolences and prayers go out to the family and all who was involved in this tragic event, pd is doing a complete investigation and we will have more details at a later date," College Station Deputy City Manager Chuck Gildman said.

The roadway was closed for four hours during the investigation, but has since been reopened.
