CALEDONIA, MICH. - Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire late Sunday night at a two-story home in southeastern Kent County.
It broke out just before 11:15 on Grainery Road, which is near the corner of 84th Street and Broadmoor Avenue in Caledonia. Neighbors first noticed the flames and called 911. Firefighters say before evacuating the home, the family tried to put out the fire with a garden hose.
Firefighters who first arrived on the scene reported the attached garage was fully-engulfed in flames. The fire then spread to other parts of the home.
By 11:45, most of the fire was knocked down, but the home sustained heavy damage. Most of that damage was contained to the garage and the surrounding parts of the home.
Everyone made it out of the home safely, including pets. The family does have a place to stay for the night.
