Cedar Springs Police Chief retiring

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Cedar Springs Police Chief is stepping down after six years at the post.

Roger Parent announced he will be retiring in August. He's served nearly 40 years in law enforcement, 34 of those years with the Kent County Sheriffs Department. Parent became police chief in Cedar Srpings in 2008.

Parent announced his plan's during the Thursday's city council meeting to give the city manager enough time to conduct a proper search.

Parent's last day will be August 29.
