Colorado snowboarding accident leaves Fruitport man in coma

FRUITPORT, MICH. - Prayers and wishes for a fast recovery are filling up social media sites for a Fruitport man critically injured this week in a snowboarding accident.

Keegan Harp, 22, was snowboarding with friends in Colorado on Monday afternoon when he fell and suffered serious injuries.

“He sustained a pretty serious injury to his head,” said Harp’s friend, Fruitport resident Michael Hilliard. “He has a couple of broken bones.”

The 2013 Fruitport High School graduate is in a medically induced coma, Hilliard said.

“They are monitoring him closely,” he said. “Right now, it’s kind of a waiting game.”

Harp worked at the Dockers restaurant in Muskegon this past summer and had gone to Vail, Colorado, earlier this month to work in a restaurant for the winter, Hilliard said. For the past four years, Harp and Hilliard have been partners in direct sales for Herbal Life.

Hilliard said that Harp is “the one who lights up any room that he steps foot in. He has the biggest heart and is one of the most selfless people I have ever met.”

Hilliard has set up a Go Fund Me page to help Harp’s family pay for travel, hotel, food and any other related expenses.

“If you can find it in your heart, I’m asking you to please support Keegan and his family during this difficult time,” Hilliard said. “If you are not able to donate financially, we are asking that you please say a prayer for our brother and his family.”

Hilliard said that Harp is big into working out and has participated in body-building competitions. Harp had attended All Shores Wesleyan Church in Spring Lake.

“He’s very mature, very smart and very faith-based,” Hilliard said. “One of the first things he did when he went to Colorado was find a church.”
