GRPD hosts 'Fair & Impartial Policing' training session

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Grand Rapids Police Department and selected community members participated in a "Fair & Impartial Policing" training Friday, March 3.

According to the department, the training is based on the science of human bias - including the research on implicit bias, which can impact what people perceive and do, even in people who consciously hold non-prejudiced attitudes.

The training covered the science of bias including:

  • Assessments of reform and realms of policy
  • Recruitment and hiring
  • Training
  • Supervision and accountability
  • Leadership
  • Measurement
  • Outreach to diverse communities

Leaders from the department will now pass along the information from the training to the rest of their crews.
