COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. - Doug Fricano's phones are ringing off the hook.
The owner of Fricano's on Alpine said his business is booming with customers coming in from out of town to support his pizza place. All because he exercised his freedom of speech.
"I had to put another order in today for a standard Monday order to get me through the week because I've gone through product rather quickly," owner Doug Fricano said.
All because of one post about Donald Trump.
"He is the epitome of success," Fricano said. "He stands for our liberties, he stands for our freedoms, he stands for our constitution, he wants to protect it."
Jim VanderWoude has never been to Fricano's on Alpine until now.
"After seeing the Facebook post we decided to come and support Doug," VanderWoude said.
But not everyone feels the same way.
"I lost 67 people un-friended me on Facebook, which is to be expected. But I got 728 people to friend me, so the numbers aren't lying," Fricano sad.
But VanderWoude isn't here because of what Fricano posted.
"Everybody has an opinion and just because our opinion is different than somebody else's, so what?" VanderWoude said. "I want to support businesses, as a small business myself, I want to support people who stand up and for him to be criticized just because he has an opinion, that doesn't make sense."
That is exactly why Fricano decided to make his views public.
"If I'm ever going to speak out, now's the time to do it. So I put business to the side, if it cost me a couple of bucks on pizza so be it, there's bigger fish to fry," Fricano said.
VanderWoude is happy to support someone who isn't afraid to speak up.
"We don't need confrontations, but we need conversations," VanderWoude said.
