BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)—In about a year, shoppers in West Michigan will have a new outlet mall to visit.
Tanger Outlets is bringing its third shopping complex in Michigan to Byron Township. Officials broke ground on the construction project Thursday morning. The outlet mall will include more than 80 stores, including Ralph Lauren, Cole Haan and Nike. The complex will be located at 84th Street, just off U.S. 131.
During the construction phase, the Tanger Outlets project will bring approximately 300 jobs to the area. When it's finished, developers estimate the mall will generate 1,000 new full-time and part-time jobs and bring about $7 million in annual sales tax to the state.
"We look forward to coming to Byron Center and West Michigan. This will provide a unique shopping environment. [It's] a great business to bring to this region," says Steve Tanger, CEO of Tanger Outlets.
Tanger Outlets already operates malls in West Branch and Howell Township. The Byron Township facility is expected to open the new mall in fall of 2015.
