2 hurt in chain-reaction crash near Coopersville

COOPERSVILLE, MICH. - Two people, including an 11-year-old girl, are in stable condition at a local hospital after a crash near Coopersville.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, on I-96 near 48th Avenue.

Ottawa County deputies say traffic was slowing down for a separate crash when the driver of a semi could not slow down in time. The semi truck driver hit a vehicle causing a chain-reaction crash involving two other vehicles.

The 11-year-old girl and the driver of the car she was in were taken to the hospital. No one else was hurt in the crash.

Police say the highway was shut down for about an hour while crews cleared the scene. The semi driver was ticketed.
