Dog missing after tornado found safe

WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -- There's good news to report after a dog disappeared in Sunday's tornado.

Puckett, a golden Labrador/border collie mix has been found safe at the Kent County Animal Shelter. The dog went missing from the Well-Mannered Dog Kennel on Clay Avenue SW.

The kennel was heavily damaged in the tornado and the owner initially believed all dogs inside were accounted for. But Puckett escaped and could not be found despite a search in the surrounding neighborhood.

Owner Barbara Shenton tells WZZM 13 she was reunited with Puckett Wednesday morning and he is in good health. Puckett was also micro-chipped Wednesday as a precaution in case he ever goes missing again.

Owners Barb and Norm are from Vermont and had been in the Grand Rapids area visiting family. Puckett was put in a kennel while his owners visited Ludington when the storm struck.
