Drunk driving crash kills teen in Alpine Township

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A 17-year-old is dead following a crash Sunday afternoon.

Kent County deputies responded to the accident on 6 Mile Road and Fruit Ridge Avenue at 3:40 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13. A 39-year-old Grand Rapids man was driving on 6 Mile and did not stop at the stop sign.

He hit a minivan on Fruit Ridge Avenue driven by 49-year-old Beth Cook from Morley. Her husband Randall and their daughter Megan were also in the van.

The crash pushed both vehicles into the path of another car driven by a 60-year-old Grandville man.

17-year-old Megan Cook was pronounced dead at the scene. Her parents were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The people in the other two cars were not hurt.

Deputies believe the driver who caused the crash was under the influence of alcohol.
