Family of man killed in motorcycle crash sues Kent County

Matthew Denney was traveling north on Peach Ridge near 8 Mile Road, when his bike hit one pothole and then another.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The family of a motorcyclist killed on a Kent County Road will be back in court Tuesday, Oct. 4.

42-year-old Matthew Michael Denney died in a motorcycle accident in May of 2014.

Authorities said Denney was riding his motorcycle north on Peach Ridge near 8 Mile Road.  As he got to the top of a hill, the bike hit one pot hole and then another. Denney lost control and flew off his bike. He died at the scene.

The experienced biker was not wearing a helmet.

His family blames potholes for causing the crash and is suing the Kent County Road Commission. Today, a Court of Appeals in Grand Rapids will hear arguments in the lawsuit.

The attorney for Kent County denies any wrong doing or negligence on behalf of county officials.
