71-year-old hospitalized after house fire in Grand Haven

The 71-year-old man is being treated for smoke inhalation.

GRAND HAVEN, MICH. - Crews are in Grand Haven battling a house fire located on North 5th Street. 

The call came in just before 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire conditions on the street side of the two story home. Witnesses told them that two women, a 64-year-old and an 85-year-old, were able to get out however a 71-year-old man was still trapped inside. 

Firefighters worked to get the 71-year-old out of the house -- he was on the first floor and passed out. He was removed from the home and taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital for severe smoke inhalation treatment. He was later transferred to a hospital in Grand Rapids were he is currently undergoing treatment. 

Both women were treated at North Ottawa and released. 

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire around 7:30 a.m.

The entire incident is under investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
