2 bodies found in 2 separate Grand Rapids locations

Body Found in Highland Park

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Grand Rapids police are conducting two death investigations involving two bodies in separate locations.

Police first responded around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, to the area of Front Avenue and Letllier SW involving a 54-year-old man found unresponsive, Grand Rapids Sgt. Terry Dixon said.

He was reportedly found not breathing with a bloodied face. Officers remain at the scene to determine a cause of death.

Another situation is unfolding in the area of Grand Avenue and Hake Road, Dixon said. A viewer reports to WZZM 13 police are at Highland Park, which is in the area.

A caller reported seeing a body in a marsh area of the park around 1:50 p.m. Officers confirmed the presence of a body not long after arrival.

They believe it had been in the water for some time. The cause of death is not yet known and they have not identified the person.  Police believe the body has been there for days but say there are no obvious signs of trauma.

"At this time we'll go look at our missing person's list and see if there is anyone that would match this but at this time we're waiting for the medical examiner to determine race, cause of death, time, so we''ll have to wait and see," says Captain Eric Payne with GRPD.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Grand Rapids police at 616-456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
