Diversity summit held in downtown Grand Rapids

The Grand Rapids Chamber hosted the DEI Summit.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Grand Rapids Chamber hosted the DEI Summit at the J.W. Marriott today, Nov. 17.

The event focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. Chamber leaders said that all three qualities are an important part of the region's economic growth.

"It helps us to have a more diverse workforce," said Sonya Hughes the V.P. of Inclusion with the Chamber. "Which we know also makes us come with more innovation to the challenges we face in our organizations, product development as well as understanding for purchasing our goods and services. But we also know it helps us become much more welcoming and inclusive as a region."

A Pew Research Center study says that by the year 2055, the United States will not have a single ethnic or racial majority.
