Fountain Street Church hosts Sandy Hook remembrance vigil

Local Sandy Hook event

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - It has been exactly five years since the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. 20 children died, along with six adult staff members on Dec. 14 of 2012.

In Grand Rapids a group met Thursday to honor the victims. Volunteers with the Michigan chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America gathered at the Fountain Street Church.

It is one of more than 200 events across the country commemorating the somber anniversary.

The volunteers are part of Everytown for Gun Safety, which is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country.

Family members of the victims spoke to abc news. You can read that story here
