GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The John Ball Zoo introduced their newest addition on Saturday, a baby bongo, and it's a girl!
The baby bongo was born Aug. 25 and makes her debut at 9 days old. She is named Uzuri, which in Swahili means "beauty."
This is the second baby bongo to be born at the zoo in two years. The first bongo, Neo, was born at the zoo in December 2014 and has recently been relocated to a zoo in Texas.
Uzuri and her mother, Makena, 8, are mountain bongo, which are a critically endangered species and exists in forests of central Kenya. Only 250 mountain bongo are estimated to be in the wild.
There are more than 300 mountain bongo in North American zoos.
