LaughFest announces 2015 dates, economic impact

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Gilda's LaughFest will return in 2015 for its fifth edition of providing laughs to West Michigan and donations to Gilda's Club Grand Rapids.

The comedy festival will run from March 5 to March 15 2015.

Grand Valley State University also released preliminary results of the economic impact to West Michigan of the festival. The study says that LaughFest created a $3.2 million economic impact on the region, and that those from outside of Grand Rapids who came to the festival spent just under $50 per person in the area. This includes hotel room spending, dining, and transportation costs, which are additional to buying tickets to LaughFest shows.

50,000 people purchased tickets to LaughFest events in 2014.

"When LaughFest began in 2011, our goal was to create a festival of laughter for the health of it that would not only raise awareness for the programs of Gilda's Club Grand Rapids, but raise awareness for the West Michigan region," said Wendy Wigger, president of Gilda's Club Grand Rapids in a press release. "We are thrilled the numbers presented by the economic impact study show that LaughFest is a primary reason individuals are visiting the region."
