London transplant says city will prevail over terrorism

London transplant in Grand Rapids says hometown will survive

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - They survived the Nazi aerial bombardment and overcame IRA terrorism. Now, a London man who moved to Grand Rapids two years ago says Jihadist extremism will not defeat England's capital city.

Ash Middleton says one reason he moved to America and Grand Rapids is he no longer felt safe in London. “It was definitely part of my consideration for getting out of London,” he explains. “I just wanted to be somewhere that I felt safe."

Since moving to Grand Rapids, Middleton says he closely follows the news from home. He believes London and its citizens will survive attacks from Islamic extremists, he just doesn’t know how much they will have to endure.

“London will prevail,” he says. “It’s just what damage will we have to go through before we get to that point.”

Middleton says he supports the Muslim mayor of London and he brushes aside critical tweets posted by President Donald Trump. He says the mayor has criticized some of President Trump's decisions and policies, and he thinks the President can't resist retaliating on social media.

“I think it is tit for tat,” he says. “Donald can’t help himself when it comes to social media.”
