30-year-old man found unconscious near the Grand River

Man found by the Grand River

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, a 30-year-old man was found unconscious near the Grand River in the area of the Blue Bridge Monday, Nov. 27.

He has been idenitified as Robert Campbell of Kent City. 

The call came in around 8:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Catherine Williams. The man was unconscious laying on the rocks near the river's edge.

He is alive but is at the hospital in critical condition. 

Investigators are still investigating why Campbell was at the river and how he became unconscious. There are no signs of trauma, but the department is treating the investigation as suspicious until criminal activity can be ruled out -- per policy.
