GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - A new statue honoring a former U.S senator from Grand Rapids, is now on display outside DeVos Place.
The bronze, seven-foot sculpture shows the likeness of William Alden Smith. As senator, he chaired a committee that investigated the sinking of the Titanic.
Smith was also one of the few republican presidential candidates in 1916.
His statue is the ninth in the Community Legends of Grand Rapids project series, paid for by the family of Peter Secchia.
