Police: Sound of thrown rocks mistaken for gunshots in Heritage Hill

Police were called around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, to Cherry Health at the corner of Cherry and Union streets SE.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - A report of a shooting in the city's Heritage Hill neighborhood turned out to be something much less serious.

Police were called around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, to Cherry Health at the corner of Cherry and Union streets SE on the report, however, police at the scene said there were no shots fired.

Instead, a patient inside the health facility was throwing rocks, making some sort of sound, WZZM 13's Valerie Lego reports.

Whomever called police must have thought the sound of the rocks were like gunshots, police said. Still, at least 15 police vehicles responded amid the report.

It's unclear why rocks were being thrown around.
