Retiring GRPD Chief to serve on parole board

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Retiring Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk is leaving the police department, but he's not giving up public service.

Belk has accepted a position on the Michigan Department of Corrections Parole Board.

As a board member, Belk will also serve in an advisory role to the Governor on issues of clemency.

Belk will begin his four-year term on June 9th.

Grand Rapids City Manager Greg Sundstrom says he plans to appoint an acting police chief by May 30th.
