Thousands flock to Grand Rapids Turkey Trot

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - More than 4,400 people participated in the 25th annual Grand Rapids Turkey Trot.

This record-breaking attendance easily beat last year's record of 3,278.

The 5K run/walk and the SpartanNash 1K Mini-Trot took place on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 23 in downtown Grand Rapids. Participants started and finished outside the Van Andel Arena.

Proceeds from the event will benefit GRPS Athletics, giving students the opportunity to participate in after-school activities.

In 2016, the Turkey Trot raised more than $70,000 for GRPS Athletics. This year's total is still being calculated.
