Volunteers help clean up trash from Grand River

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Volunteers, including Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss, helped to clean up the Grand River.

The morning event Saturday, Sept. 10, was part of the 13th annual Mayors' Grand River Cleanup. Household items, plastics and even a rubber tire were pulled from the river and its tributaries.

Teams began the day around 8 a.m. and were outside until early afternoon, even amid rainy and windy weather.

Last year, about 20,000 pounds of trash was removed.

Live music and drinks were provided to volunteers following their efforts.
