A Grand Rapids police officer is in hot water tonight after drunk driving allegations.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - A 23-year veteran with the Grand Rapids Police Department is on paid administrative leave after he was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash and driving while intoxicated.

Michigan State Police arrested the 46-year-old male officer early Sunday, Oct. 16, after his involvement in a single car accident, according to a Grand Rapids Police Department news release. The officer fled the scene of the accident before his arrest.

His blood alcohol level tested above the legal limit, police say.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment to minor injuries and then taken to the Kent County Correctional Facility.

The officer was not on duty at the time of the incident. Michigan State Police will continue their investigation of this incident.
