Car hits house; toddler tossed across the room

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A vehicle crashed into a house Friday afternoon, bringing down at least part of the porch.

Grand Rapids Police tell WZZM 13 the accident happened on the 900 block of Humbolt Street shortly before 3 in the afternoon. "Some moron decided to take sleeping medication and then drive in his car," said homeowner Colin Bengtson. " He hit the curb, hit the fire hydrant clipped it, and then flew up on my steps and landed in the side of my house."

Witnesses say the car came speeding down Cromwell and knocked down everything in its path. Bengtson says he was inside the home with his wife and 1 year old child. He says he yelled to his family to get out of the house. They escaped by breaking through the screen door.

The force of the collision tossed the 1 year old across the room but she was not hurt. The homeowner, his wife and the driver of the car all escaped without injury. The driver left the scene with police.

The exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
