Grand Rapids firefighters tackle 2-building, Division Avenue fire

Grand Rapids firefighters responded to two buildings on fire Sunday, June 11.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Firefighters worked to put out a fire in the area of Division Avenue and Albany Street on the city's South Side.

Crews were sent around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, for a reported fire. The first responding firefighters reported a fire in an attic, with smoke showing from the apartment building.

The fire then spread to a neighboring commercial structure.

A firefighter at the scene reported a woman was inside the apartment at the time but was able to get out without issue. She was taken to an area hospital to be checked out, and no other injuries are reported.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A Grand Rapids police lieutenant confirmed an officer responded to the area and closed the road to traffic.
