Marijuana operation causes overnight fire

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Two men were injured, one critically, in an explosion that lead to a house fire on the city's South Side.

The explosion happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of Sigsbee St SE.

The Grand Rapids Police Department was called to assist the fire department after learning the fire started in a marijuana grow operation.

A 37-year-old man was critically injured in the blast, suffering from severe burns and smoke inhalation. He remains in the hospital Wednesday afternoon. Another man, 29, was also injured. He was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

A 29-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy were also inside at the time of the fire but were not harmed.

In addition to the marijuana grow operation, officers also found a fish farm inside the home.

GRPD's Vice Unit has seized the drugs and is investigating.
