Man sentenced for murdering homeless vet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- The man convicted of a homeless veteran's 2013 murder has been sentenced.

Judge Mark Trusock in Kent County Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced Eric Sear to 35 to 90 years behind bars for killing 69-year-old Douglas Barry at a halfway house on Adams SE near Madison. That attack happened in March 2013.

Sear was also sentenced to 10 to 20 years for larceny from a person, and 10 to 20 years for conspiracy to commit larceny from a person. He's to serve his sentences concurrently.

A co-defendant, 32-year-old Cari Lynn Johnson, earlier pleaded guilty to larceny and was sentenced to between one and 15 years in prison.
