Overnight house fire started intentionally, police say

Suspicious fire on Southwest Side

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Police in Grand Rapids are looking for the person(s) responsible for starting a house fire overnight.

The call came in just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, to a home in the 700 block of Van Raalte Drive SW.

According to police, the homeowner appeared to have it under control when crews arrived. The fire was contained to the outside of the front of the house.

It was not immediately known how many people were inside the house at the time, but no one was hurt.

Investigators are citing incendiary as the cause. By definition, an incendiary fire is one deliberately ignited under circumstances in which the person knows that the fire should not be ignited.

The case remains under investigation.
