GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The Kent Conservation District and Urban Roots are receiving a $50,000 Urban Agricultural National Grant.
Urban Roots is a one acre farm in the Madison area of Grand Rapids and the focus of a collaborative effort with the Kent Conservation District. The farm provides fresh produce to the underserved in the community.
The Kent Conservation District will help provide technical assistance to the farm, like soil health practices, water efficiency and quality initiatives, and pollinator gardens.
With the grant money, the farm hopes to go beyond just providing food to the community. Executive director Levi Gardner says they hope to become a center for social and ecologically conscious work in the community.
