1 dead, 1 arrested after Grand Rapids stabbing

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - One person is dead and one has been arrested after a stabbing in the Black Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids.

It happened around 1:50 Friday morning, March 10 on Sheffield Street inside the Walnut Grove Apartment Complex, according a lieutenant with the Grand Rapids Police Department. A man called 911 and told dispatchers he stabbed and killed someone.

When officers arrived near Hayden Street and Norwich Avenue SW a 41 year old suspect had a knife in his hand.

The 60 year old victim was found, dead, a few minutes later outside a home on Sheffield. Sgt. Terry Dixon, a spokesperson for the department, said they placed the suspect under arrest and he was then transported to an area hospital. Dixon was unsure if the suspect sustained injuries, but says he was covered in blood.

Police are not releasing the relationship between the two men. But, Dixon believes they lived together in the home.

The incident is still under investigation.
