1 person killed after crash with Grand Rapids city bus

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Alpine Avenue between Pannell and Richmond streets is back open after a deadly crash involving a Grand Rapids city bus and a car.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 20, near Alpine Avenue and Pannell Street NW.

Grand Rapids Police say the bus was traveling north on Alpine Avenue while a car driven by 62-year-old Gregory Resner was heading south. Investigators say Resner's car crossed the center turn lane and hit the bus.

Resner died in the crash. Police say no one on the bus was injured, but a witness told WZZM 13 multiple people were taken off the bus to be checked out medically.

About 15 people were onboard the bus at the time of the crash.  Alpine Avenue was closed for roughly four hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Departments Traffic Unit.
