GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - The John Ball Zoo calls the red panda one of the most adored animals in the world, and one is coming to the zoo in August.
The red panda exhibit is now being built at the top of the waterfall and the zoo's marketing manager Krys Bylund tells WZZM 13 that crews are moving quickly on the project. It will be completed in early August and the animal will be introduced when it's settled and comfortable in its new home.
There are less than 10,000 red pandas left in the wild, they're endangered, and they're part of the Species Survival Plan. It's a breeding program in accredited zoos. John Ball Zoo currently participates in 34 Species Survival Plans.
