Teen in critical condition since being pulled from Ottawa County lake

Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies say a teen was underwater for about 10 before he was pulled out of the water.

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A teenager remains in critical condition Sunday at a Grand Rapids hospital after rescuers pulled him from an Ottawa County lake.

Kaivon Eskew, a 15-year-old Wyoming teen, was playing when he went to retrieve a ball at the 8th Avenue Community Park lake, according to an Ottawa County Sheriff's Office news release.

He came across a 6- to 8-foot drop about some 30 feet from shore, began to struggle and went underwater. Crews were called to respond just after 4 p.m. Saturday, June 17.

It's believed Eskew was underwater for about 10 minutes before a dive team member and bystander were able to pull him out, police say.

He was taken to a Grand Rapids for treatment of critical injuries.
