Grand Rapids man seriously hurt in crash with semi

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A 65-year-old Grand Rapids man is in the hospital recovering from serious injuries after Ottawa County deputies say he crashed his car into a semi.

It happened around 5:50 on the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. Investigators say Robert Vandermolen was headed east on I-196 near the M-6 exit ramp. His vehicle left the road, hit a guardrail, and returned to the road where it hit a semi.

The semi was driven by 43-year-old Daniel Lamer of Wyoming. The rig drifted off the road and hit a guard rail before coming to a stop. Lamer was not hurt.

Vandermolen had to be cut out of his car by Georgetown Township firefighters before he was taken to the hospital by Life EMS.
