Suspect in carjacking, robbery arrested

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department has caught the man accused of carjacking a woman and forcing her to drive to an ATM and withdraw money for him.

The woman was abducted early Thursday morning in Georgetown Twp., and investigators say 29-year-old Tomas Garcia is responsible. They say he was armed with a knife and forced the woman to take him to a Grand Rapids ATM before getting dropped off in the area of Fulton St. and Lane Ave.

Garcia faces charges of unlawful imprisonment and armed robbery.

Ottawa County's Capt. Mark Bennett says investigators caught Garcia without incident around 5:45pm Friday. He was captured at one of his known addresses, which was near the Brookmeadow Apartments, the location of Thursday morning's carjacking. Undercover investigators in the area spotted him, and after his arrest, he was taken to the Ottawa County jail.

Capt. Bennett says the Grand Rapids and Grandville police departments helped the Sheriff's Department identify Garcia as the suspect.
