Fiat's Alfa Romeo coming to West Michigan

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) -- The luxury car market just got a whole lot more competitive in West Michigan.

If you love Italian cars, you were probably thrilled to see Fiat's Maserati roll in to Zeigler Auto Group in Grandville eight months ago.

"We're on pace to sell 150," said dealership president Aaron Zeigler. "That's exceeded our expectations."

Zeigler's sales also impressed Fiat.

"So next month we're bringing Alfa Romeo here to Grandville," he said.

More than 100 people gathered for the surprise unveiling.

"It's never been sold in West Michigan and hasn't been in the U.S. for over 20 years," said Zeigler.

And Grandville will be the only stop between Chicago and Detroit to pick one up.

The two-seat sports car will go for an estimated $70,000, though prices haven't been released yet. Sedans and SUVs will follow. Zeigler calls the Alfa Romeo a step below the Maserati, and says there's really isn't a crossover.

"Maserati is our ultra-premium brand, and Alfa Romeo is more of a premium brand," he said.

Shashi Kothawla of Kalamazoo is impressed with the Ferrari engines, and says he'd buy.

"I like the body lines, uniqueness," he said. "It's a great option for West Michigan and the fact you can service the vehicle here."

Zeigler anticipates selling 400 Alfa Romeos in a year to an improving market of high-end car buyers.

"I do see people buying more options on them. They're a little higher price point than what they did a few years ago," he said.

Kothawla plans to buy white.

The Alfa Romeos will hit the Grandville lot and about 50 others in the U.S. on June 17th. A Maserati SUV is also coming early next year.
