GVSU students return to campus for new school year

ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) -- Thousands of new and returning students are moving-in at Grand Valley State University. Volunteers, along with GVSU President Thomas Haas, served ice cream on Wednesday to students outside the Kleiner Commons building.

Some first-year students told WZZM 13 that the ice cream was a good ice breaker.

"The ice cream is probably my favorite part because who doesn't love free ice cream? Especially on a hot day like this," said Lauren Prince, a freshmen at GVSU.

"It gets me more excited and it gets me another way to meet people to see everyone else that's eating ice cream," says Jade Hanson, a freshman at GVSU.

The newest class of students will be officially welcomed, on Friday, during Convocation, to officially start the school year.

Classes begin on Monday.
