High winds work against firefighters' battle against house fire

Winds cause fire crews problems in Gun Lake

YANKEE SPRINGS TOWNSHIP, MICH. - High winds are proving to be an issue for firefighters as they work to put out a house fire near Gun Lake.

With winds gusting in excess of 30 mph, multiple crews from area departments are tackling the fire in the area of Island Drive and Patterson Road. The fire was reported around 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 8.

Initial reports were worrisome as the homeowners' whereabouts were not known and a vehicle was in the driveway; a Barry County dispatcher confirms they're out of town.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time

Firefighters from the Hastings, Hopkins, Yankee Springs and Wayland are helping each other to extingiush the fire.
