PARK TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Police are investigating a drowning death of a 3 year old in Ottawa County.
Rescuers responded around 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, to the area of Lakeshore Drive and 3rd Street on a report of a toddler found in a pool, said Captain Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
He since has been identified as 3-year-old Kairo Klaasen.
The child had been playing the backyard with his parents nearby when the parents became involved with something else and lost sight of the boy, Bennett said. They started looking for Klaasen, only to find him at the bottom of an above-ground swimming pool.
He was pulled out so authorities could begin resuscitation efforts.
Rescuers were not successful; the child later was pronounced dead at a Holland-area hospital, Bennett said.
The death is not considered suspicious, he added.
