HOLLAND, MICH. - The Holland Rescue Mission is celebrated the opening of its new Gateway Ministry Center on Friday afternoon.

The Mission bought the property located at 661 East 24th Street back in 2013. According to the Holland Rescue Mission's Gateway Center Facebook page, the center combines nine previous locations.

After years of fundraising and months of renovations, Mission leaders cut the ribbon on the new facility on Friday afternoon.

The building will house classrooms and training space for the homeless men and women in the "Gateway Academy" program. The program was created to help those in need move toward a life of independence.

The Gateway Ministry Center also includes a 27-thousand square foot thrift store -- the largest in all of Holland.
