Police identify man killed by fallen crane in Holland industrial accident

HOLLAND, MICH. - A business owner was killed by a fallen crane near Holland.

Robert Jay Geurink, a 55-year-old Holland man, was operating the crane around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Holland Equipment Services / A&B Farms when it somehow tipped over and pinned him inside the cab, according to an Allegan County Sheriff's Department.

Police say Geurink is the owner of the business, located near Blue Star Highway and 142nd Avenue.

An early investigation shows Geurink was working alone to move a large piece of equipment from a flat bed trailer. In this process, the crane rolled onto its side.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or MIOSHA, has been tasked to investigate the incident.
